A laboratory needs to know information about your materials and your institution's needs before they can provide an estimate on how much the desired work will cost. In preparing to secure an estimate, examine the material closely and determine the desired deliverables.

The National Television and Video Preservation Foundation (NTVPF) recommends that you utilize the following list of questions to assess your material before requesting an estimate and in preparing your project proposal.

Basic Information:

What is the title or how is the material identified?

What is the record date or year the material was produced?

What is the material's storage history?

Will you be adding credits or other descriptive material to the beginning or the end of the piece?

Does your institution have special projection requirements?

Who will be handling the project at your institution? Provide contact information including name, phone number, email, fax number, and address.
